How to Make Soya Chaap Curry | Soya Chaap Recipe | Soya Chaap With Gravy


soya chaap is a soybean preparation and we are making soya chaap curry a delicious high protein alternative for vegetarians
ingredients and quantities are listed in the description box. these are
2-2.5 tbsp desi ghee/clarified butter
4 pieces of dry chaap
we soaked it overnight in water and next morning boiled in water for 10 minutes
and then washed it thoroughly under running water. after this remove the sticks and chop the chaap into pieces
if you are using frozen soya chaap soak it for only 30 minutes and then you can easily remove the stick on which the chaap is rolled
puree of 3 tomatoes
puree of 2 onions
2 tbsp yogurt
1 tsp ginger paste and cloves from one garlic bulb ground
1 tbsp meat masala
1/2 tsp garam masala
2 finely chopped green chillies
3 tbsp chopped cilantro
1 tsp kasuri methi/dry fenugreek leaves
1/2 tsp turmeric powder
1-1.25 tsp sendha namak or rock salt or table salt
1 tsp coriander powder
2 tsp kashmiri /any red chilli powder
water as needed, depending on how thick/thin gravy you want
keep a pan on medium heat. add the clarified butter and let it melt
you can use oil instead of the clarified butter if you wish
then add the onion puree and saute till it turns light brown
this should take about 2 minutes
browned onions will give the gravy a nice color
you may lower/raise heat as required
browned onions also make the gravy more delicious
the onions are done. add the ginger & garlic pastes and saute till the mixture turns a medium brown color
now add the tomato puree & chopped green chilli
and saute till the ghee separates out from the masala about 2-3 minutes
keep heat on medium
the ghee has separated out and the extra water has dried out. this took about 3 minutes
add the yogurt. you can use fresh cream instead if you prefer
stir till it mixes well, about a minute
now add all the spices
reduce heat to low. add the salt
turmeric powder
red chilli powder. we have used Kashmiri red chilli powder as it gives a nice color to the gravy and also is not too spicy
stir it a few times and add the rest of the spices too
coriander powder
kasuri methi
garam masala
and meat masala. this is for flavor. you may skip it. this is only a mixture of different spices
mix till everything combines well & roast the spices for 1-2 minutes
you may raise & lower heat as required
the masala is done add the soya chaap pieces
mix well and stir roast in the masala for 5 to 7 minutes on low heat
do not add any water while roasting the soya chaap
add 2 tbsp of cilantro a couple of minutes later and keep stir roasting
the soya chaap is looking good after roasting. we roasted it for 7 minutes
add the water and raise heat to high
you may add less or more depending on how thick or thin a gravy you want
we added 500 ml water. mix it well
add about a tsp of cilantro, give a mix and let the water come to a boil
heat is on high
the gravy has come to a boil, reduce heat to low and cover with a lid. cook for 10 minutes and stir it every few minutes while it is cooking
lift the lid and stir it a few times in between then put the lid back
after 10 minutes the dish is ready
we will transfer to a serving dish and garnish with the remaining cilantro
here is our soya chaap in curry dish. do try it and share your experience
