Is the Fall of Satan really described in the Bible?

  1. Great video, and this is broadly where I come at with this question, although would have been better to at least make mention of Luke 10 (I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven).

  2. Nothing could be more Wrong than this, the prophets spoke te Word of God as they received it, not they're owns, Jesús said: “I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children. Mathew 25:11

  3. It seems plausible that passage can have a multi-layered meaning and could refer to both. But, I agree it makes no doctrinal difference.

  4. I think the act of the temptation of Adam and Eve was his fall. He said he would exalt his throne above the most high. He was trying to take the creation from God. His pride blinded him to the fact that he could never usurp Gods authority.

  5. I agree mostly with your views, however in the new testament it says he masquerades as an angel of Light. It does not say he is or was. and Jesus also says that he was a murderer from the beginning so there's no possible way that he was ever an angel.

  6. Almost every single polytheistic ( and false) religion worships the planets. This is why there are so many parallels/archetypes between them. The internal orbit of Venus cause it to rise and fall on the same horizon in the morning (hence the name) and this orbit is where the rise and fall of baal comes from (as well as the seasons). Some general cosmology and understanding the propensity for ancient peoples to deify/worship that cosmology help illuminate some of the scriptures against them. This video is great.

  7. Buenos días. Este video se puede encontrar doblado al español o subtitulado? Quedo atento a sus comentarios. Gracia y paz.

  8. 9“All this I will give You,” he said, “if You will fall down and worship me.” 10“Away from me, Satan!” Jesus declared. “For it is written: ‘Worship the Lord your Godand serve Him only.’” 11Then the devil left Him, and angels came and ministered to Him.…

  9. I've read the Bible; but, I do not remember this. I'm not sure if this man should be trusted.

Jesus is called the Morning Star.

  10. Thank you for interacting with the specific arguments laid out by Dr. Michael Heiser on this topic and for sharing your honest evaluation of them. This sort of scholarly and respectful interaction between highly qualified Old Testament and Semitic studies scholars reflects well upon the reputation and integrity of Southern Baptist Seminary and their faculty.

  11. I find Heiser’s interpretation more convincing. Regarding Isa 14:13 when did Adam ever say “I will ascend to heaven, above the stars of God, I will set my throne on high”. When did he ever express this level of pride? Is this just an oracle against an earthly king? When was the king of Babylon ever called the Day Star, son of dawn? Was he fallen “from heaven”? It’s hard for me to not see the parallels to Satan.

  12. I believe that Dr Peter Gentry is an amazing theologian, that said, there are not a few who disagree with his position, I on the other hand having looked into this subject arrived at the position of a multi-layered understanding…it could readily be that Dr. Gentry is correct while at the same time these passages reflect an additional two other reflected truths…namely that the fall of Satan is referred to as well.

  13. It seems that most of Western understanding of the Satan story is actually gleaned from extra-Bibllical sources, such as Enoch, the Talmud, and non-Judeo-Christian traditions.

  14. I actually support the notion that these scriptures in Isiah and Ezekiel are acting as "similies" to apply to two different beings, simultaneously. For those who aren't sure, a simile is a form of writing in which comparisons to two separate entities are made, simultaneously, using the same statements and imagery.

The Canaanite religion, scripturally speaking, is most likely based off of the true God and Hebrew religion at the time, yet obviously being a twisted and fallen form of it. We can safely assume this because the Canaanites came from Canaan. Canaan was the son of Ham, and Ham was the son of Noah… Later in Genesis, we see the downfall of the Canaanites being foreshadowed in 'The Curse of Ham'.

That being stated, I personally believe that the Canaanite religion was very very loosely based on their fundamentals, but then falling way off the wayside. Their pantheon was most likely based on Lucifer and the fallen angels (who attempted to become God in the same way). I think Lucifer was the form of Athtar to the Canaanites.

It's interesting how a embodied persona of Athtar actually involved lightning. Later, in the book of Luke, it is written that Satan fell from heaven "like lightning". That's a striking similarity here. Additionally, Athtar was known for trying to usurp Baal's throne but failed and was cast down… Another striking similarity, right?! A being who appeared with lightning characteristics falls from heaven like lightning, just like the scripture directly says about Satan.

There's clear distinction between divine attributions being made, and mortal attributions being made. This is particularly clear in Ezekiel.

Though ancient middle eastern Kings did often try to deify themselves, no prophet of God ever acknowledged it in and way. We see this shown in Daniel where he and his companions would rather burn in the furnace than acknowledge the Babylonian King's false deification. What's even more supportive is that Isaiah is giving a direct spoken word from God himself when it is written down, "you shall say", or "you shall take up this taunt" (God taking to Isaiah and Ezekiel)… God certainly would not affirm or even entertain the idea of a mortals false deification. Yet, apodictic statements like "you were the signet of perfection", are divine attributions being spoken to in affirmative past-tense… I don't think the Lord would've told Ezekiel to use such strong wording in application to a mortal alone, especially when the Lord God denies the attempted self deification of the prince of Tyre, just before the lamentation to the king of Tyre that included divine attributions being spoken to, in actual recognition. The distinctions are intentional.

All of this supports the idea that a simile is being used. I think the scriptures are acting to condemn these false Kings, who were acting with the spirit of Antichrist (the Spirit of Lucifer), who are following in his footsteps and are therefore being cast down in the same way that Lucifer was. God is speaking to both the mortal Kings, as well as to the Spirit of Lucifer who is behind them; telling us a true story of the past and the present at the same time.

  15. Never studied much on who the devil is and why we believe what we do. This gave me a lot to consider and a reason for further study.

  16. Thank you very much for your contribution to this discussion Dr. Gentry. It's good to hear the other side to these things, especially in the respectful tone that you demonstrated.

I had never heard that interpretation of the meaning of the wheels in Ezekiel's "visions of God," I.e. that it means the presence of God was leaving the temple and the people until the new covenant. It actually makes a lot of sense. Again, thank you for sharing!

  17. Eschatology Matters! When your understanding of the end times is wrong, it effects all other doctrines – to one degree or another.

  18. Thank you for addressing this difficult topic. We learn in Job 1 that when God was gathered with his Angels, Satan joined them. And in Revelation 12, Michael and his Angels in a battle cast Satan and his angels out of Heaven. So these chapters tell me that the Satan is not yet cast out from 3rd Heaven. He still has access to God. But at a certain future in Revelation 12, the Satan will finally be cast out of Heaven and begin his pursuit of Israel.

  19. My view of the passage in Ezekiel is that it is about the devil, but the fall does not refer to an actually thrust from heaven but a fallen nature, fallen from how he used to be to something vile. Nonetheless i appreciate this video

  20. The garden is ladeled with trees. The trees handle the rest of our gravitational waves. The days of a man's life depends on the safety of the tree of life. Electrically our gravity has 2 steps to carrying the collective current. The throne of God is the garden. To this day, that tree is protected by the angels of light. Military elect-ricians. Our Northern pole has a sun to its, east. Solar radiation is fueled by the tree tops. Our electrical over flow from that reserve causes the super Nova. Let light be. Law came in Eden. Cherubim are Chair-ubim. The electrical license, that started the space race, is still protecting the solar consumption and tree function. Satan is the angle of fire. Comparably understood, Giant dragon flames could kill the trees. There have been improvements. The tree of life was chopped by the limbs. Other species are preceding it on our Earth. Before our extra electricity reaches the tree of life, it passes through all of the others. Birds and squirrels take care of the highly electrical trees: Two more angles. The leaves of trees display the microscopic gems literally. Satan is in the garden and lives as long as he needs. His tree will release him one day. The loosening of his gravity will allow him to walk the earth, with weaker human gravity. The sky may turn red from the sapp. The law allows penalty and release. A woman stole the electrical license and shipped into space. She is Eve the drunken whore. Satan can keep his powers without the scroll to take them. Thus, his ability to set fires. The 2nd floor won't be done by God. The tsunami that pushed locusts through lands of old: will be food for the firemen that will control the tides. Fire prevention and extinguishment, are electrical rights, even without the scroll made of the tree of life's bark. cJT

  21. Wow. You watch the news and you start to think that all American Christianity has lost touch with the truth of the Bible. But that was remarkably refreshing both in his position and how he arrived at it.

  22. Is it not possible that our GOD, the LORD'S words in the Bible that have been inspired by his Holy Spirit through man can have so much meaning and information that the text has inexhaustible understandings? I for one believe yes. I cannot even begin to fathom the knowledge of linguistics my GOD holds in forms of communication for is children's fellowship.

  23. Actually the only place in scripture where it literally talks about satans fall was when Christ talked about him being thrown from heaven like lighting.

  24. Those scriptures may have been originally written in Hebrew but at the end of the day. "All scripture is given by inspiration of God". It is the Holy Spirit that was communicating through Isaiah and I highly doubt that the Holy Spirit would plagiarize stories from an extremely evil belief system as that of the Canaanites to communicate God's message in Isaiah 14.

I think your interpretation is mistaken because you have tried to use non-biblical stories to interpret Biblical stories. Let the Scripture interpret itself. If we can't make out what a text is talking about, it's better to just say we don't know rather than speculate.

  25. Your so full of it dude, why would God refer to any other gods of ANY other religion, God says I am the Lord God, the first and the last, bedsides me I know no other gods.
    Isaiah 44:6-8

  26. Recall this too: Satan, like all the other angels, does not possess a 'solid' body, because they are spiritual beings. I recall that Ezekiel 28 labeled the King of Tyre as 'the anointed cherub'. Perhaps this is in reference to Satan spiritually inhabiting the body of the King of Tyre.

  27. Always take it to Deutsch numbchucks; fallen could well mean 'wahlen' for chosen. These modern churches will just run you upon the sword if you let them. Take satjan for instance just means "to sit" but why sit when you are gladly going to pay 10% to run upon a sword? Take English to where it came from folks.

  28. When you don't know the scriptures for your self (by daily prayer and reading for yourself ) you can be swayed by someone who present themselves like some kind of expert on the scriptures.

  29. Aaah..just another Interpretation of scripture…meaningless!! Who cares if its The Fall of Satan or Babylon or anything else!! It doesnt change Anything!! We live and we die!! Where our Spirits(if we have one) ends up, is a Mystery, only the dead know, and they arent talking!!

  30. And the Devil is just a metaphor for poor self image right? You see, this is what happens when you go seminary…just like going to secular college. You come out thinking you know so much while being secularized in your view of The Lord and His word. This man is incorrect in his theology and if you don't believe that then read the word of God yourself! You DO NOT need an egg head like this to show you the meaning of God's word, you just His divine direction. Isaiah 14 is talking about Lucifer and how do we know that? Because it calls him by name! Isaiah 14:12 how art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! See? It doesn't take 12 years in college and boat load of your daddy's money to figure out that Isaiah 14 IS talking about Lucifer…because it CALLS HIM BY NAME. So…what have we learned? Satan and his fall are not a metaphor or parody! End of line.

  31. Thank you for DECONSTRUCTING Christianity. Your opinion on the WORD of GOD is hearty. YOU'RE the reason that SEMINARIES churn out poor pastors, who are lacking biblical wisdom and the Holy Spirit. You just robbed man of the origin story of Lucifer! Who works behind human kings. Unreal!

  32. So the bible ( written by GOD) is influenced by Canaanite false religion, is channeling evil for instruction, and the Prophet ISAIAH is confused. He is not speaking about Yahweh's Arch Enemy , but something else. So, you just argued away Lucifer…. Are u kidding me?! Based on the King Saul account? Not Satan, not a Forth coming Antichrist, not even a historical figure to see within the scope of typology , the lesser ( KING OF TYRE/BABYLON) to the greater ( SATAN and his influence upon a coming Anti-Christ).

  33. Did the Lord say show respect to others? Romans 2:11, Acts 10:34, Deuteronomy 10:17 KJV. No he did not.
Next who is Satan? Genesis 3:15 Notice here Satan has a seed. Well this seed was present in the next Chapter the enmity between Cain, and Abel. This is the context of Genesis Chapter 3 and 4, which is more clearly displayed in Genesis 4:16. Notice Cain and his descendants were not in the presence of the Lord, and dwelt on the Land of Nod on the East of Eden. But what did God place at the East of Eden? Genesis 3:24. Notice God placed the wicked on the East of Eden to keep the way of the Tree of Life. The understanding is One must overcome the evil ways of this world to receive the reward of the Tree of Life. Well the World was given to the hand of the wicked Job 9:24 who led Gods people into captivity over various captivities up until this day. Well this same wicked seed was brought forth through Isaac. Genesis 25. Rebekah conceived and born two nations. The one came out red, and the other had no description. The prophesy is the elder shall serve the younger Genesis 25:23, 2 Esdras 6:9. In Malachi 3:6 also in Hebrews 13:8. The Lord does not change. This is the same instance that occurred w/ enmity between Cain, and Abel between Esau, and Jacob. So through prophesy who has enslaved people over periods of history and ruled by the sword Genesis 27:40. Here I'll make it simple. Esau is Edom Genesis 36:8-9 Edom is the land of Idumea. Well If you read 1 Maccabees 1:1-10 You will find Alexander the Great son of Phillip the Macedonian well King Herod was an Idumean his father was Antipater a general in Phillips military. The Idumeans are the Romans today who the Catholic church sent forth by the Dum Diversas a papal bull issued on 18 June 1452 by Pope Nicholas V. It authorized Afonso V of Portugal to conquer Saracens and pagans and consign them to "perpetual servitude" This is what brought the slavery of Gods people to fruition, where the people have been destroyed to this day, and have taken on the full customs, and traditions of their captors. By now you should get the jist of who Satan is today, and who is Gods people awaiting the return of the Lord. If you have a chance google Jesus Christ and select images then Read Revelation 1:14-15, and see if that matches. If the photo does not resemble what the Bible describes as Christ, then it can only be the Antichrist then you will have an actual visual of of the Devil is today.

  34. Why? Was waiting but you just blew on by. Where is the whirlwind? Who stirs every breeze?

Ezekiel 14:3-11 (KJV) 3 Son of man, these men have set up their idols in their heart, and put the stumblingblock of their iniquity before their face: should I be enquired of at all by them? 4 Therefore speak unto them, and say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Every man of the house of Israel that setteth up his idols in his heart, and putteth the stumblingblock of his iniquity before his face, and cometh to the prophet; I the LORD will answer him that cometh according to the multitude of his idols; 5 That I may take the house of Israel in their own heart, because they are all estranged from me through their idols. 6 Therefore say unto the house of Israel, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Repent, and turn [yourselves] from your idols; and turn away your faces from all your abominations. 7 For every one of the house of Israel, or of the stranger that sojourneth in Israel, which separateth himself from me, and setteth up his idols in his heart, and putteth the stumblingblock of his iniquity before his face, and cometh to a prophet to enquire of him concerning me; I the LORD will answer him by myself: 8 And I will set my face against that man, and will make him a sign and a proverb, and I will cut him off from the midst of my people; and ye shall know that I [am] the LORD. 9 And if the prophet be deceived when he hath spoken a thing, I the LORD have deceived that prophet, and I will stretch out my hand upon him, and will destroy him from the midst of my people Israel. 10 And they shall bear the punishment of their iniquity: the punishment of the prophet shall be even as the punishment of him that seeketh [unto him]; 11 That the house of Israel may go no more astray from me, neither be polluted any more with all their transgressions; but that they may be my people, and I may be their God, saith the Lord GOD.

…like grandpa catching you smoking, sow, reap, eat, smoke the whole pack and learn…

  35. Genesis 3 doesn't say anything about satan or lucifer or a fallen angel that tempts eve. It just says a serpent. That's it. There is no correlation to satan in genesis

  36. Satan was created in a flawed state, god doesn't do evil he unleashes the devil and his Angel's. This is shown in the story of Job.
